[Report: Image]The USA men's team was on the podium again at the World Championship 100K race in Gibraltar on November 7, 2010. The Americans brought home the Team Silver Medal by finishing second among the 28 nations participating. Led by Michael Wardian's third place finish, the team placed five men in the top 25 runners overall. Wardian's time was 6 hours, 49 minutes, 18 seconds, just 5 minutes behind the champion, Shinji Nakadai of Japan. The other American men were Chikara Omine (9th), Matt Woods (12th), Chad Ricklefs (14th), Joe Binder (25th), and Todd Braje (DNF).

The USA women were not able to finish the mandatory minimum of three runners. Meghan Arbogast finished in fifth place overall, ahead of teammates Carolyn Smith (9th) and Melanie Fryar (DNF).

The World Masters Association conducted its championship race concurrently with the World Championship in Gibraltar. At age 49, Arbogast won the WMA women's title and beat the American record for masters women in 7 hours, 46 minutes, 1 second, pending course certification.

Most of these outstanding athletes have competed in the Mad City 100K in recent years. Wardian (2008), Woods (2010), and Arbogast (2010) won their national championships here. Chikara, Ricklefs, Smith, and Fryar have also placed high and run fast times here to qualify for Team USA.
