| | | | | Dear Solo Runners,
Winter weather has been on my mind for so long, I almost forgot that spring starts officially this coming week. Maybe you are interested in a weather report for the Madison area, so here goes.
We received a lot of snowfall here this year. Temperatures were much colder than normal, and yet the snow is now melting away quickly. We're having a lot of sunny days. People are jogging and training around our race course now without difficulty. It's still a bit chilly (see this weather site ). Just keep a watchful eye on our ever-changing forecast.
I attended a nice 50K trail race yesterday in Iowa (the Hawkeye 50K). Iowa and southern Wisconsin share much the same weather. I felt sorry for the runners because the trails are changing from frozen-hard to muddy and wet. Despite that and the chilly temperature, the runners (many of them in shorts) seemed joyful running outside. Training over a long, cold winter made 35 - 40 degrees Fahrenheit feels pretty darn nice to these folks and their crews. I imagine the same is true for many of you.
Of course, the Mad City Ultras have the advantage of being road races, so the footing will be one less worry for you, regardless of the weather leading up to April 12.
